Wilder's

Wilder's on Main St. is a piano bar/restaurant. It has been in Joplin since 1929. I've never eaten there myself (a bit too expensive for a poor college student like myself), but I hear the food is excellent.

Maybe someday you can afford it, or perhaps they will treat you to a meal for publicity! :)

Yep, that is it. Someday they will give you a treat.

I am like Jim. I like the sign.

The sign reminds me of a wildly colored fiddlehead fern.

I grew up in Joplin and moved away in 1987. I was fascinated by many of your photos, and they brought back alot of memories on this rainy, melancholy day. Thanks for your contributions.

the sign looks 'loud' and 'clumsy'. but it is interesting isn't it?

maybe one day you might get to try the food in there :-)

I grew up in Joplin and remember going to Wilder's a very few times (when a family with MONEY invited us). I remember that the cash register sat on one of those old glass display cases, and from that case they sold very unusual "treats". They actually had cans of chocolate-covered ants in there! WHY, I have no idea. But the Wilder's food was great. Hope you get to eat there!

I lived in Mt. Vernon in the '30s when I was a little girl. The Wilder's were part of my family. We used to go to the restaurant for lunch when we were in Joplin to visit them. It was good then too. Haven't been there since. Maybe one day.

I love the old sign with the neon bulbs and the AAA rating. Brings back memories.

Do you know if this was ever a burlesque theater? It sure has that "look" to the facade and marque?

I enjoyed your photography and the post.
